Welcome to the Sparks!

We welcome a new pastoral family to Maples! Rev. Stephen Sparks, wife Holly, and children Andrew, Anna Claire and Amelia Rae will be moving into their new home in Lewisburg next week and Stephen will preach his first sermon here July 1. The family is coming to Maples from First UMC, Indianola, where Stephen served for the last eight years. Earlier appointments include First UMC Richmond, KY while at seminary at Asbury, First UMC Tupelo and Gateway UMC in Gulfport. He also worked at Getwell Road as youth pastor for over two years before attending seminary. We know you will want to make the Sparks feel welcome to our Maples family and are planning events where you will have that opportunity.

Back to Two Services September 2!

All you early birds will be happy to know that this Sunday, September 2, Maples will resume our schedule of two morning services. Just a reminder about the times: "The Table" will be our early morning service at 8:30 a.m. offering Holy Communion each week including music, prayer time and a sermon. Sunday School will continue to be held at 9:30 and our main service will take place at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday Night Activities Begin August 8th

Our Wednesday night schedule resumes on August 8th. Supper is at 5:30 p.m. with a nursery, a rotation of children's activities, youth activities and four adult small group offerings. We have sign up sheets with brief descriptions at the Information Desk for the adult groups-please sign up if you plan to attend so that we can plan spaces accordingly. A brochure with all the information you need is available at the Desk as well.

Tailgating at Olive Branch High School

This year, the Maples Men's Club will be leading our Tailgating ministry at OBHS football games. We'll be grilling burgers and hot dogs for the community from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.  We are seeking donations of the following items:  value packs of potato chips, cookies, plastic forks, bottled drinks, napkins and jars/bottles of condiments.  Most importantly, we invite you to come join in all the fun! Games are 9/28, 10/12, 10/19, 11/2.   Hope to see you there!

Maples Learning Center 20th Anniversary Homecoming

Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 10:30am at Maples Memorial UMC

We would like to invite all past and present MLC students, staff, and Board members, as well as your families, to join us for our celebration! It will begin with our 10:30am worship service where our current MLC students will sing a few of our favorite songs. After worship service we will have a picnic lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and cake! We will also have several bounce houses for the children to enjoy. This is a casual event and we hope you will attend. Call Maples Learning Center if you have questions at 662-895-0622!

Fourth Day Gathering for September

All our Fourth Day Community (those who have participated in spiritual retreats such as Emmaus, Cursillo, Crysalis, etc) are invited to gather for a time of fellowship and worship on Sunday, September 23 at noon in Wesley Hall. Please bring a dish for the pot luck lunch.

Little Free Pantry

The Little Free Pantry, installed last summer on the west side of our campus, has been a valuable outreach to the Olive Branch community. Not only does is provide non-perishables and hygiene items to those in need, it has been a fulfilling yet easy way those who are 2 to 92 can be the hands and feet of Christ. I have received touching messages of thanks who have benefited from the pantry's items and also the excitement of an MLC parent whose child loves adding an item everyone morning.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact via email.  You're encouraged to sign up to fill the pantry here. Examples of pantry items can include nonperishable foods, toilet paper, diapers, baby food, hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, etc), pet food, & school supplies. (Vitamins, medicine, and razors are discouraged.)

Furniture at the Parsonage

The Board of Trustees is recommending the parsonage be sold.  There are several pieces of furniture remaining in the house.  If there are items which were donated by members, we want to give you a chance to retrieve them.  Please call Jane or Pam in the church office if you need to reclaim any furniture.
