Welcome to the Sparks!

We welcome a new pastoral family to Maples! Rev. Stephen Sparks, wife Holly, and children Andrew, Anna Claire and Amelia Rae will be moving into their new home in Lewisburg next week and Stephen will preach his first sermon here July 1. The family is coming to Maples from First UMC, Indianola, where Stephen served for the last eight years. Earlier appointments include First UMC Richmond, KY while at seminary at Asbury, First UMC Tupelo and Gateway UMC in Gulfport. He also worked at Getwell Road as youth pastor for over two years before attending seminary. We know you will want to make the Sparks feel welcome to our Maples family and are planning events where you will have that opportunity.

Giving Wall
Be sure to check out the Giving Wall behind the Information Desk. There are lots of needs for our upcoming Vacation Bible School posted there. Even if you can't volunteer at VBS, you can be a part by supplying some of these items.

Little Free Pantry

The Little Free Pantry, installed last summer on the west side of our campus, has been a valuable outreach to the Olive Branch community. Not only does is provide non-perishables and hygiene items to those in need, it has been a fulfilling yet easy way those who are 2 to 92 can be the hands and feet of Christ. I have received touching messages of thanks who have benefited from the pantry's items and also the excitement of an MLC parent whose child loves adding an item everyone morning.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact via email.  You're encouraged to sign up to fill the pantry here. Examples of pantry items can include nonperishable foods, toilet paper, diapers, baby food, hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, etc), pet food, & school supplies. (Vitamins, medicine, and razors are discouraged.)

Men's Club Annual Memorial Golf Tournament

Each year in August, Maples' Men's Club sponsors a golf tournament to benefit the Leon Turpin Scholarship Fund, named in honor of a former member for whom both golf and high school youth were central to his life. After he retired from years as a high school coach and principal, he served as a marshal for several years at Cherokee Valley Golf Club. Scholarships are awarded each year in August to high school seniors who have submitted applications. This year's tournament is a four man scramble and will take place on Saturday, August 4 at Cherokee Valley Golf Club with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start. Registration forms with more information will be included in the Sunday worship bulletin for the next few weeks.

Summer Youth Update

This summer  youth will be meeting weekly on Thursdays for Bible study at 6:00 pm. Jr Highs will meet at Ron and Amanda McCormick's home and Sr Highs will alternate between Kevin and Leigh Ellen Doddridge's home and Chick Fil A.

Each Tuesday our youth are participating in ministry to the homeless in Memphis with a group led by Rev. Greg Hazelrig. Please meet at Maples at 6:00pm.

Special events in July include a picnic in the Olive Branch City Park at 11:00am on July 12 and a Redbirds' game on Sunday, July 22.
